Some books leave a lasting impact on you.
One of these books for me has been 'The Power of Full Engagement' by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz.
In short, the book is about learning how to manage your energy...
Which according to the authors is crucial, because... as it says in their book's subtitle...
Managing Energy, Not Time, Is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal.
As someone who wants to be faithful to the calling
God has given you, maximizing energy ought to be of interest to you.
After all, we each have only so much energy to expend on a given day.
And that energy can easily be squandered.
By things
like:
... a poor diet
... going to bed too late
... failing to give yourself time to recover from stressful
activity
... getting irritated by small annoyances
... letting yourself get out of shape
... worrying
... giving yourself to worthless and destructive habits
... failing to create rituals and schedules that bring order to your life
... leaning on your own understanding rather than God
Now there are many other energy-sapping practices I could mention...
But the point is:
Keep an eye on how you use your
energy if you want to faithfully fulfill the purpose God has for you.
Because when you misuse your energy you end up wasting the power of your life.
We're at that time of year when a lot of people consider how they can make better use of their time.
But it might be more worthwhile to look at how you can better manage your energy.
God has given you power that is mightily at work within you (Col.1:29).
Don't squander it.
