[Spoiler Alert]
Have you seen the movie "Sully"?
It's the account of Sully Sullenberger's incredible water landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on January 15, 2009.
... Also known as
"The Miracle on the Hudson"....
Seeing the landing portrayed in the movie is definitely worth seeing.
But something I found just as attention grabbing was the investigation that took place after the event.
You see...
As part of its investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board had to determine whether or not Captain Sullenberger could have made it back to an airport... rather than ditch the plane in the Hudson River.
There was a lot of anxiety over this question -- in
the movie, at least -- because when the incident was studied through tests using flight simulators, it appeared the plane could have returned.
For a time in the screen version, it looked like Captain Sullenberger may have been irresponsible... needlessly crash landing the plane in the water...
Until he pointed something out...
He drew attention to the fact that simulators work fine for predictable conditions.
But they don't take into account the human factor when conditions are unprecedented.
And that's what he faced...
A flock of geese had never taken out both engines on a jet airliner before.
So there were no clear guidelines when it came to safely landing a 60 ton metal tube that was hurtling through the sky with 155 souls on board.
No... to rule over his domain in that situation Captain Sully had to draw on his experience, skill, and responsible decision making.
And that's a good thing to keep in mind as YOU rule over your own domain.
For many
things you face there will be no protocol. There will be no map.
You'll need to innovate.
And act in the most responsible way you can... based on your level of skill and experience.
Which is just
fine.
In fact, it's normal...
Because God made you in His image, you've been designed for such a thing.
