We’ve been hearing a lot about “fake news” lately.

Which is kind of funny…

Because much of the news has been fake for a long time… in that it’s been more about providing entertainment, increasing ratings, and pushing a political agenda… than serving as a reliable source of information about important issues.

But… lately… the ‘fakeness’ of the news has become a bigger deal… especially as it’s being used to manipulate people in a certain political direction…

So… there is a place for concern…

But as I see it, the big worry is NOT sorting out what news is fake and what news is real…

…People have wondered who to believe in that regard for quite a while…

No… the bigger problem is spending much time trying to sort out what is real news and what is fake at all.

Now I’m not saying you should ignore what’s going on around you.

Or that you should be ill-informed…

… Or undiscerning.

No… keep up with current happenings… from the sources you find you can trust the most…

But just don’t over do it.

Because the greatest danger for you is not that you’ll believe some tidbit of misinformation…

But that you’ll get so wrapped up in keeping the players straight… and figuring it all out… that you will fail to focus on the important work God has called you to do.

Listen… there is so much information available now that you can spend the whole day — every day, for the rest of your life — trying to keep up with it all.

And attempting to do that would be a huge mistake.

Because God’s purpose for you is not be an information junkie, but to become an agent of TRANSFORMATION.

And the only way you can do that is to know when it’s time to turn away from the news… and spend your time and energy on the good news… through the unique calling God has given you.
